Kenichi Tajima

田嶋謙一

Began playing the Shakuhachi (traditional Japanese end-blown flute) at the age of 12, studying under his father, Tadashi Tajima.

Education: Graduated from the Department of Traditional Japanese Music, majoring in Shakuhachi, at the Tokyo University of the Arts (Tokyo Geidai) in 2006.

University Post: Served as an assistant in the Department of Traditional Japanese Music at Tokyo Geidai from 2009 to 2012.

Award: Received the New Artist Award at the 69th Agency for Cultural Affairs’ Arts Festival for his first solo recital in 2014.

Current Roles and Affiliations:

General Director of “Yurubito.”

Head of the “Tajima Kenichi Memorial Opera Company.”

Board Member of the Japan Shakuhachi Players Network (JSPN).

Member of the Wagakki Orchestra Aioi and the group The Shakuhachi 5.

Member of the Japan Sankyoku Association, the Kamakura Sankyoku Association, and the Zushi Sankyoku Association.

12歳より尺八を始め、父である田嶋直士(たじまただし)に師事。2006年 東京藝術大学邦楽科尺八専攻卒業。2009年~2012年 東京藝術大学邦楽科助手。2014年 自身初のリサイタルで第69回文化庁芸術祭新人賞受賞。「ゆる人」総監督、「田嶋謙一記念歌劇団」団長、「日本尺八演奏家ネットワーク(JSPN)」理事、「和楽器オーケストラあいおい」会員、「The Shakuhachi 5」メンバー。「日本三曲協会」「鎌倉三曲協会」「逗子三曲協会」会員。
