Shakuhachi Player / 3rd Iemoto of the Kominato School of Min’yō (Folk Song) / Okraulo Player / Producer
Born as the eldest son of the Iemoto (headmaster) of the Kominato School of Min’yō (Japanese folk songs), he began performing on stage at the age of five, learning directly from his parents. In 1985, he won the Grand Prize at the Children’s and Young Adults’ Min’yō Competition.
Traditional Training: Since 1995, he has refined his traditional techniques under the tutelage of Living National Treasure, Gorō Yamaguchi.
Education: Graduated from the Department of Traditional Japanese Music, majoring in Shakuhachi, at the Tokyo University of the Arts.
Major Debut: Made his major debut with the group ZAN from avex in 2004, followed by a U.S. debut in 2008.
Solo Work & Production: Released his solo album Requiem in 2012. Since 2015, he has served as the Chief Music Producer for the NHK World program Blends. He is also the Tourism Peony Ambassador for Sukagawa City, Fukushima Prefecture.
Instruction & Okraulo: He dedicates himself to nurturing the next generation as a Shihan (master) of the Shakuhachi, and also performs as an Okraulo player, making a major release from Victor in 2018.
Extensive Activities: He spans a broad range of genres—masterfully incorporating Min’yō, Pop, and Jazz in addition to traditional Japanese classical music (Hōgaku)—and is active in various fields including TV, radio, live performances, and concerts.
Global Reach: His international performances have taken him to over 100 cities in more than 30 countries.
Recording: He has participated in the recording of various popular video games, including Monster Hunter Rise, Nobunaga’s Ambition, and Street Fighter VI.

Jury member for the International Shakuhachi Competition in 2022.
Lecturer at the Texas World Shakuhachi Festival and the Prague Shakuhachi Festival in 2025.
Member of JSPN, Japan Sankyoku Association, and belongs to the Headquarters of Chikumeisha.
尺八奏者・民謡小湊流3代目家元・オークラウロ奏者・プロデューサー
民謡小湊流家元の長男として生まれ、5歳より両親の手ほどきを受けて舞台活動を開始。1985年、少年少女民謡大会で最優秀賞を受賞。1995年より人間国宝・山口五郎氏に師事し、伝統技術を磨く。東京藝術大学音楽学部邦楽科尺八専攻を卒業後、2004年にavexからZANでメジャーデビュー、2008年には全米デビューを果たす。2012年、ソロアルバム『レクイエム』を発表。2015年よりNHK World『Blends』の音楽総合プロデューサーとして番組に参加。福島県須賀川市の観光牡丹大使も務める。尺八師範として次世代の育成にも尽力し、オークラウロ奏者としても活動。2018年、Victorよりメジャーリリース。
伝統邦楽・古典のみならず、民謡・ポップス・ジャズなど幅広いジャンルを自在に操り、テレビ・ラジオ・ライブ・コンサートと多岐にわたる活動を展開。海外公演は100都市30カ国を超える。『モンスターハンターライズ』『信長の野望』『ストリートファイターⅥ』など様々なレコーディングに参加。
近年、国際的な活動も活発に行っている。2022年国際尺八コンクール審査員。2025年テキサスワールド尺八フェスティバル講師、プラハ尺八フェスティバル講師。JSPN会員。日本三曲協会会員。竹盟社本部所属。
